at the Georgia museum of art
free admission - ENGLISH SUBTITLES
Every year, during the Hispanic Heritage Month, the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute sponsors the Latin American Film Series at the Georgia Museum of Art. This year we have also received the generous support of the Brazilian Consulate in Atlanta, and the Portuguese Flagship Program at UGA. The Festival is a showcase of recent films from the area, around a given topic. This year theme is “Latin American Women Behind the Camera”. Starting with the pioneer Carmen Santos, from Brazil, women have played a key role in the development of the film industry in the region. The list of women directors is remarkable and many times their works are a milestone in the history of Latin American film. We have selected four recent movies directed by women that show the quality and variety of films produced recently in the area. They not only deal with gender issues, but also offer a distinct and original point of view to social, historical, and political problems in Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela and Chile.
The films will be screened every Thursday at the M. Smith Griffith Auditorium, at the Georgia Museum of Art at 7:00 pm, starting on September 27th. The admission is Free. A Faculty member or a Graduate Student will introduce the film and lead a discussion after the screenings. This is a Blue Card event.
